JEE Advanced 2014 LogoJoint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common entrance exam which is led for admission in numerous engineering courses like B.Tech, B.E, B.Arch and B.Planning under the supervison of Ministry of Human Resource Development. From 2013 this exam is split in two part JEE Main and JEE Advanced. In this post we will talk about JEE-Advanced which is for admission in IIT's (Indian Institutes of Technology), The Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad and Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU). JEE Advanced 2014 Eligibility Criteria


Followind are the Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2014

1. Eligibility for candidates who have passed 10+2 in the year 2012

2. Those students who cleared their Board exam for the first attempt in 2012, the eligibility criteria for joining any of the IITs or ISM Dhanbad will be 60% marks in their 12th grade Board or correspondent (55% for SC/ST/PwD applicants). For those students who passed their 12th grade Board exams in the year of 2012 but are re-appearing in the 2013 Board exams with a interpretation to improve their performance, 60% rule will apply if they use their 2012 Board exam results and ‘top 20 percentile’ rule will apply if they use their 2013 Board exam results. This will be a one-time concession for JEE (Advanced) 2013 only.

Basic Eligibility and Distribution of Candidates

Applicants who wish to give JEE (Advanced) must write Paper - I of JEE (Main), because only top 1, 50,000 applicants (including all groups) who qualify in Paper - I of JEE (Main) will be qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced). Distribution of top 1, 50,000 applicants across various categories is as follows:

Top 75750 (50.5 %) Common Merit List
Top 40500 (27%) Other Backward Classes Non creamy layer OBC (NCL)
Top 22500 (15 %) Scheduled Caste (SC)
Top 11250 (7.5 %) Scheduled Tribe (ST)

3% of the total applicants in each category are reserved for PD applicants as per GoI norms.

Number of Attempts in JEE Advanced

An applicant can attempt JEE (Advanced) maximum two times in consecutive years.

JEE Advanced 2014 Exam Fee


The cost of the exam is Rs.1800 for general category whereas for categories such as schedule caste, schedule tribe and physical handicapped is Rs.900.

JEE Advanced 2014 Paper Pattern


JEE Advanced Paper 1 had 60 questions in total with a time limit of 3 hours.
JEE Advanced Paper 2 also had 60 questions in total with a time limit of 3 hours.

All the questions of JEE Advanced were MCQs with whichever one or more right choices except 5 questions each in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics of Paper 1 which are figure type questions. The new planned format has subjective tests which will bring more worry to students within the permitted time limit.
